Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Peshnyan announced today (Sunday) that he intends to submit his resignation next month with the aim of holding primary elections in the country.
Pashnian said that once he has completed his term, he will take on the role of acting prime minister, in order to allow for government continuity.
After Pashnian held political consultations with the Armenian president and the leaders of the country's three major factions in parliament, he announced on March 18 that the country's primary elections would be held on June 20.
However, the opposition in Armenia has announced that the protest in the country, which has been going on for about a month, will not be stopped.
As a reminder, since the signing of the ceasefire agreement in the Nagorno-Karabakh war on November 9, public protest against Pashnian has increased, claiming that he has agreed to humiliating conditions for Armenia, including the relinquishment of many territories in the disputed territory between it and Azerbaijan. Shortly after the end of the hostilities, mass demonstrations began demanding the resignation of Pashnian.
