Beijing
Decidedly, “tea with milk” does not cease to be talked about.
Having become the emblem of a surprising virtual alliance between pro-democracy activists from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, and more recently Burmese, it is the turn of its cousin, "pearl tea", to debate in China.
Invented in Taiwan in the 1980s,
bubble tea
is a milk tea embellished with black glutinous tapioca balls, to be enjoyed using a large straw.
Easy to take, this highly addictive sweet-tasting drink is popular with Chinese teenagers who wear it in malls and young working people who bring it to the office.
Each cup is sold around 20 yuan (2.50 euros).
For a few yuan more, it is possible to add fruit jelly, red beans or lightly salted cream.
Several chains by offering are experiencing phenomenal success, easily spotted in the endless line of customers who form in front of their stores.
