Mexico and Guatemala reported this Saturday that the border operations they will carry out on the borders between both countries will seek to control irregular migratory flows and, at the same time, the covid-19 pandemic.
In Tapachula, the National Migration Institute (INM) of Mexico presented the "organized, equipped and trained groups for the humanitarian rescue of migrants who are deceived and defrauded by human smugglers to reach the northern border of Mexico," according to a statement. of the institution.

According to figures from the INM, between January 1 and March 25, 34,993 people have been identified in the country in "irregular status", some 7,643 more than in the same period in 2020.
According to the Mexican government, it is estimated that, on average, 3,095 undocumented people enter each day, mainly from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
The INM said in the statement that "the surveillance operations will remain 24 hours a day in the entire southern border of Mexico, as well as on the highways, freight trains and stray roads, in order to maintain a regular migratory flow, in addition of the sanitary measures by covid-19 ».

For their part, the Guatemalan authorities reported this Saturday that they held "high-level" meetings in Tecún Umán with their Mexican counterparts to carry out "comprehensive care of irregular migration to the United States," according to a statement from the Guatemalan Institute. of Migration.
This Saturday, authorities from both countries held a meeting that included a "symbolic act" at the Rodolfo Robles international bridge, in which Guatemalan and Mexican officials participated, who will be stationed on both sides of the border.
