Police have opened an investigation after death threats received by the director of the Jewish Theater in Bucharest and signed by the nationalist party AUR, which however denied any involvement, authorities said on Sunday.
The historian Alexandru Muraru, recently appointed special representative of the government for the Memory and the fight against anti-Semitism, asked the police officers "
to deal with speed and the utmost seriousness this serious case
", according to a press release.

Maia Morgenstern, known for having interpreted the role of the Virgin Mary in Mel Gibson's film "The Passion of Christ", had shared on her Facebook account on Saturday a long message of insults and intimidation which was sent to her by email ,
"On behalf of the AUR formation"
(Alliance for the Unity of Romanians).
This text, since removed from the page, "
promised to set fire to (your) idiotic Yiddish theater"
, according to a screenshot viewed by AFP.
The investigation, carried out in collaboration with the intelligence services, identified two suspects, reported the Digi24 television channel.
Their identity has not yet been revealed.
Searches are underway at their respective homes in Bucharest and Timisoara.
George Simion, president of AUR, immediately denied any role in this affair, saying he was "dismayed by this nauseating and unspeakable attack".
