The Ministry of Interior announced that police officers in Sahnaya district in Damascus countryside had arrested two people while stealing copper cables from electrical transformers.
In a statement, which SANA received a copy of, the ministry stated that the police units in the Damascus Countryside Governorate had received reports about unidentified persons stealing the electrical transformers belonging to the electricity company in Damascus countryside, especially in Sahnaya.
The ministry indicated that through monitoring and intensifying night patrols, especially in periods of power outages, the Sahnaya district police arrested two people while they stole copper cables from electrical transformers, noting that, with their interrogations, they confessed to stealing more than five power transmission stations and selling the stolen cables. For a person who was arrested and confessed to buying the stolen materials from the two arrested.
The ministry indicated that a quantity of more than 70 kilograms of copper was confiscated, explaining that those arrested are among those with previous crimes of theft and pickpocketing and that investigations are still continuing with them and they will be brought with the confiscations to the appropriate court in the first place.
