The designation of the water protection area for the two wells of the water procurement association (WBV) Oberwarngau has finally picked up speed.

Now the Warngau municipal council has passed the municipality's opinion.

The focus is on the infrastructure and a farmer in Reitham.

Warngau

- The municipality expressly welcomes the improvement in drinking water protection.

The delivery rate of the two wells of the Oberwarngau water procurement association is to be increased to a maximum of 110,000 cubic meters per year.

This means that the association will be able to meet the needs in Oberwarngau itself in the future.

Because up to now a purchase from a well of the community of Gmund in Festenbach has been necessary.

This not only costs money, although the capacities in Oberwarngau should be sufficient.

The pipeline system is also suspected to be the cause of contamination, for which it had to be chlorinated for months in 2018/19.

And the protected area will also be redesignated in accordance with current guidelines.

Of course, there are a number of regulations associated with the water protection area.

For example, when it comes to fertilization, but also construction projects.

And the municipality has identified three points for which it appeals in its statement to be examined and taken into account.

On the one hand, the local connection road in the direction of Piesenkam crosses the protected area for around 1.2 kilometers and the access road between the B 318 and the airfield for 150 meters.

According to the planned regulations, winter service would be prohibited there in the future, the municipality explains.

But because this is indispensable, the community demands an exemption for it.

The community also wishes this for the Tannried level crossing near the airfield.

It is to be equipped with barriers this year - the community had fought for it for many years.

The municipality wants to remove around 60 square meters from protection zone III so that construction work can take place.

Because so that the transition area can still be safely cleared when the barrier is closed, the road must be widened in its area, explains Mayor Klaus Thurnhuber (FWG) when asked.

And of course you have to dig.

The town hall chief sees no problem with the protection zone for electrifying the railway line: "The protected area border runs three or four meters east of the railway line," says Thurnhuber.

"When electrification comes, masts can also be erected on the west side."

Anton Bader (FWG) put another issue on the agenda at the meeting: a possible bike path.

In order not to obstruct anything, the municipal council included the point in the statement.

"So that we have a foot in the door," as Leonhard Obermüller (CSU) said.

Thurnhuber reported that a farmer had also come to the town hall with the concern that the draft version of the protected area would rob him of his livelihood.

Because protection zone III extends right up to the village of Reitham.

Possibly without necessity, says Thurnhuber: “At the moment, whole corridor numbers have been recorded.” The municipality asks the water management office to draw a more differentiated line in order to give the farmer scope for future development while still guaranteeing drinking water protection.

“We need to take a closer look,” appealed Thurnhuber.

The farmer has no alternatives.

The local council passed the statement against the vote of Reinhard Bücher (Greens), for whom the formulation regarding the cycle path was too vague.

Of course, no one in the municipal council had any fundamental objections to the protection area for their own drinking water: “Of course, the acceptance is higher than when it comes to a profit-oriented GmbH that is not located in the district,” said Obermüller with a view to the planned expansion of the water protection area for the municipal utilities Munich in the district.
