Burma: Paris denounces "the blind and murderous violence" of repression

"While sanctions have already been taken with our European and international partners, (...) I call on all the Burmese forces to break the deadlock in which they are leading their country, to put an end to the violence, to release without condition and immediately all political prisoners and to resume the path of dialogue ”.

"A deep tragedy"

More than 450 people have been killed, including 13 still on Sunday, since the coup, according to the latest figures provided by the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners (AAPP).

"The violence and bloody clashes do not meet the interests of any of the parties", for its part warned the Chinese Foreign Ministry, insisting that "the victims are the Burmese".

On Sunday, the European Union denounced "an unacceptable escalation of violence".

In an unusual joint statement, the heads of the defense forces of 12 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Germany, had meanwhile lambasted the use of force by the Burmese army against "unarmed" civilians.

International convictions and sanctions do not seem to influence the junta, however: its leader, General Min Aung Hlaing, warned on Saturday that acts of "terrorism which can harm the peace and security of the state are unacceptable".
