The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress will meet in Beijing for two days starting today (29) to review specific plans for improving Hong Kong's electoral system and amend Annex 1 and Annex 2 of the Basic Law.

Youth Research Hong Kong released the results of the "Opinion Survey on Improving Hong Kong’s Electoral System" this afternoon. 71% of the respondents agreed that the NPC’s decision to improve the electoral system should be followed; 65.4% of the respondents believed that after joining the election committee, representatives of the Legislative Council Sexuality is broader, and 68.9% of the respondents believe that "perfecting" Hong Kong's electoral system will not lead to a retrogression in democracy.

Qingyan Hong Kong interviewed 1013 respondents in the form of online questionnaires from 22 to 28 of this month.

Among them, in terms of the composition of the future election committee, 58% of the respondents believe that the number of seats occupied by district councilors should be cancelled in the future elections, 22.8% of the respondents believe that the number of seats should be increased, and another 8.8% of the respondents believe that the number of seats should be reduced.

In addition, 57.4% of the public believe that in the future Legislative Council elections, members of the electoral committee should be the majority, and 56.9% of the respondents believe that the "dual-seat, single-vote" election model should be adopted for direct elections in the same region.

Chen Zhihao, the Hong Kong convener of the Youth Research Institute, believes that the members elected by the Election Committee can cover cross-class and cross-sector interests. They do not simply consider regional opinions and make the composition of the Legislative Council more diversified.

Lin Yuxing, deputy convener of the Youth Research Institute in Hong Kong, said that in the case of "general constituencies" and "proportional representation," radicals have been elected with the support of a small number of people. This is one of the reasons for the chaos in the parliament in recent years.

He also pointed out that the results showed that citizens were dissatisfied with radical political opinions and parliamentary chaos, hoping that the new electoral system would allow society to build consensus and repair tears.

[Electoral Reform] Chen Hengpin believes that perfecting the electoral system can provide institutional guarantees for the implementation of "patriots ruling Hong Kong", emphasizing that democracy has no standard answer. If a single standard is used, the criticism of "democracy reverses" is one-sided.

He also believes that restructuring the Election Committee can expand the representation and participation.
