The Remonte brewery in Oberschleißheim has now embarked on a beer rescue mission.

- The Schleißheim “Remonte Brewery” cooperative was also faced with this problem, which was triggered by the ongoing lockdown due to the corona pandemic in Germany: the minimum half-life expires and the beer can no longer be sold.

But they didn't want to accept that: The chairmen Thomas Haselbeck and Florian Trost, who is also the “master brewer of Remonte Bräu Schleißheim, and supervisory board Alexander Bauer had an idea.

Corona lockdown in the gastro: 200 Mass Helles are turned into schnapps

The fact that there is a castle distillery in Oberschleissheim, for which Alexander Bauer is responsible as operations manager of the Schleißheim court garden, helped them.

So the attempt “Remonte Bierbrand” was started and a good 200 mass of “Remonte Urhell” were turned into high-proof schnapps in the castle's own distillery.

It has to be stored for a few months before it can be blended to drinking strength and bottled.

"The distillate has a promising taste of hops and malt, as well as an incomparable honey note", describes Remonte master brewer Florian Trost and is visibly enthusiastic.

Rescuing beer after corona lockdown: common historical roots

Thanks to voluntary commitment, through which the young brewery cooperative is supported, the financial burden on the cooperative could also be kept within manageable limits.

Distillery manager Alexander Bauer and Florian Trost carried out the two fires entirely in his spare time, only the expenses incurred by the castle distillery were reimbursed.

“This collaboration also has a special historical explosiveness,” explains Bauer.

Because the Schleissheimer Schlossbrennerei and the former Schlossbrauerei, which later gained national fame as the Schleißheim Remontedepot Brewery, have common roots dating back to the 16th century.

"Our castle distillery," says Bauer, "according to historical sources, emerged from an alchemical laboratory in which schnapps is also distilled." Beer residues from the castle brewery processed into schnapps.
