Purchase of an electric vehicle: "The ecological bonus was not enough to convince me"

2021-03-29T04:52:30.392Z

At 57, Joël Froeliger chose to buy a Peugeot 208 diesel rather than a gasoline or hybrid vehicle. He explains why.

The heat engine is an understatement to say that it knows.

Not only did Joël Froeliger drive a petrol car, but he is also a physics teacher at the Charles-Jully technical high school in Saint-Avold (Moselle).

“I take a course every year on combustion in thermal engines,” he laughs, when he has just purchased a Peugeot 208 diesel.

The economic aspect was decisive.

“I switched from gasoline to diesel because the fuel is cheaper,” explains the 50-year-old.

For me, who refuel in Luxembourg, at around 1 euro / liter, it is extremely interesting.

I drive about 20,000 km a year.

The ecological bonus for the electric was not enough to convince me, nor the conversion bonus.

"

"The planet argument is a hoax"

And what about clean mobility?

The environmental footprint of its trips?

Joël, who brushes aside these considerations with the back of his hand, has a strong opinion.

“The planet argument is a hoax for now!

In reality, the carbon footprint of so-called clean vehicles is bad, because European models of electricity production are very carbon-intensive - except in France, where we are nuclear.

In the end, I think it is better to stay thermal.

I no longer drive on gasoline, which emits CO2 and pollutes, but on diesel.

The problem is different: it is the poisoning of the air via fine particles.

Fortunately, the latest models are much more efficient in terms of filtration.

The teacher bought, for 9,800 euros, a Peugeot 208 blue HDI, which displays 68,000 km on the odometer.

It is compulsory for driving in the low emission zones set up in certain metropolises (Grenoble, Lyon, Paris and part of Greater Paris).

"For me, who rides in the small villages of Moselle and sometimes in Metz, everything is fine", rejoices Joël.

At the wheel of his 208 diesel, he blends into the crowd by parking his vehicle in the school parking lot.

“All my colleagues bought diesels, only one was tempted by the hybrid.

I remember that when we talked about it in the teachers' room, we were all very mixed about green vehicles.

In order for electric cars to be truly clean, we would need to generate our own electricity, in short, we would need pedal cars.

I think the future is more in the hydrogen car.
