Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (Die Linke) is in quarantine after a possible corona contact.

Ramelow confirmed this to SPIEGEL.

Accordingly, his corona warning app indicated an encounter with an increased risk, he had gone into "self-isolation" as a precaution.

In addition to Ramelow, two of his ministers have also gone into quarantine: Justice Minister Dirk Adams (Greens) and Culture Minister Benjamin Hoff (left).

A first rapid test at Hoff was already negative.

Ramelow himself wants to undergo a professional PCR test on Wednesday.

It is very likely that the app's warning goes back to an encounter in political Berlin.

Ramelow was in the capital last Friday with Adams and Hoff, who is also head of his state chancellery.

Hoff received the same warning on his cell phone.

The politicians were at a meeting in the Federal Council, Ramelow had the vice-chairmanship of the council and partially led the round.

In addition, in the late afternoon he was a studio guest at the top SPIEGEL talk with moderator Markus Feldenkirchen.

According to himself, Ramelow did not wear a mask during the Federal Council meeting, but he also had no contacts.

Otherwise he was always wearing a mask.

Isolation at the Bleilochtalsperre

The country chief is currently on vacation, he spends it in isolation in his country house on the Bleilochtalsperre (Saale-Orla district).

The local medical officer has been informed.

In the nationwide Corona course, Ramelow, like Chancellor Angela Merkel, advocates more toughness - but also wants to hold on to openings.

A model experiment on loosening is currently underway in Weimar.

Merkel had sharply criticized model projects like the one in Saarland and threatened uniform national rules.

Ramelow was irritated by the harsh tone, but is largely with Merkel on the matter.

He has been calling for a uniform plan since February, "then finally do it," he now told SPIEGEL.

He would also be happy if this was stipulated in the Infection Protection Act via Berlin.

It just has to go forward.
