Suspended three matches, Finn Russel deprived of the European Cup with Racing

2021-03-29T23:10:25.208Z

Excluded for a dangerous gesture during France-Scotland, the Scottish opener from Racing was suspended for three weeks. He will not be able to play in the Champions Cup round of 16 against Edinburgh this Sunday, nor a possible quarterback the following weekend.

Bad news for Racing 92, already deprived of their Scottish opening half for a long time during the Six Nations Tournament.

Expelled Friday evening in the 71st minute by the English referee Wayne Barnes for having struck, forearm in the throat, the back of the XV of France Brice Dulin, Finn Russel passed Monday evening before a disciplinary committee of the Tournament.

This took into account "the regrets and the attitude" of the opener, who had gone to apologize to his former partner, to set the penalty at three weeks, on a scale of up to six weeks.

Finn Russell is excluded at the end of the meeting for a dangerous gesture on Brice Dulin.

Finn Russell will therefore miss three meetings with his club, Racing 92, entered in the Top 14 and in the European Cup.

The Champions Cup round of 16, next Sunday, against Edinburgh, the possible quarter-final (against the winner of UBB-Bristol) the following weekend and the derby against the Stade Français, counting for the 21st day of Top 14, April 17.

If the Ile-de-France club did not qualify this Sunday, the sanction would be extended by a week and would make it miss the shock against Stade Toulousain on April 24 ...

No derby against Stade Français either

Hard blow for Racing.

The Ile-de-France club will have to do without the services of Finn Russell for the Round of 16 of the Champions Cup against Edinburgh this Sunday (1:30 p.m.), but also for the possible quarter-final (April 11).

The Scottish opener will also miss the derby against Stade Français, in Top 14 (April 17).

He would also be absent in Toulouse (April 24) if Racing does not pass the knockout stages of the Champions Cup.

To compensate for his absence, Laurent Travers has several options.

Continue the interim of the young 23-year-old opener Antoine Gibert, revive François Trinh-Duc (34) or replace the Australian rear Kurtley Beale in number 10.
