Traffic in the Suez Canal was resumed today (Monday) after the release of the ship that had stuck the crossing for almost a week - the canal authority said, while the ship Ever Given was documented continuing its journey north, hoping to release the sea traffic jam.

This morning the ship was towed from the banks of the canal after six days, and the crews waited for the waves to strengthen to resume the rescue operation.

Ever Given is one of the largest cargo ships in the world, with a length of more than four football pitches.

Rescue crews operated around the clock, and they focused on removing the sand around the ship.

As of yesterday, 27,000 feet of sand had been evacuated to a depth of 18 feet.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, whose country has received offers of help from the United States, Russia and Turkey, today praised the success of the operation.

"The Egyptians have returned the situation to normal with their own hands, and the whole world can be sure now that its goods and needs are now passing through this shipping lane," the president said.

Despite the optimism after the most significant development in the operation to release the ship, the rescue team said there were more obstacles in the way.

"Do not warn too soon," said Peter Bardowski, CEO of Boskalis, which works to rescue Ever Given. "It's not a child's play."

The shipping company Lloyd's List said the number of ships stranded on both sides of the canal, connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, reached -425. Maersk, a container world's largest, estimated that disruptions in shipping industry marine may take weeks, even months.

"even when the canal reopened, the ripple effect on the capacity and equipment worldwide will be significant," said the company statement to its customers.

makes Japanese society Shoei Kisen, Owned by the 200,000-tonne ship, said 11 tugs have been hauling Ever Given since the morning hours, adding that no further damage was found to the ship, other than that caused to its stern when it hit the West Bank on Tuesday. And video that its engine is still running.

The breakthrough in the operation was recorded at 04:30 this morning, when the ship was back afloat.

Videos posted on social media showed the ship moving and opening a certain gap in the canal.

In another video, cheers and the ship's horns were heard celebrating the progress of the operation.

It is still unclear what caused the ship to get stuck last Tuesday.

Authorities said weather conditions, strong winds and sandstorms were probably not the only cause, and it could have been a human error or a technical malfunction.

Following the incident, at least 15 ships preferred to change course, passing through the southern tip of Africa, with a change that would extend their journey by 9,000 km and make it significantly more expensive. About 30% of daily container traffic passes through the 193 km Suez Canal. And about 12% of all goods in the world.

One who has felt in her flesh the effects of the canal blockade is Syria, which has announced a rationing in its already sparse fuel supply.

The Suez Canal was inaugurated in 1869 and shortened the journey between East and West.

In 2015 it was expanded so that larger ships could pass through it, but Ever Given got stuck in a narrower section that was not expanded.

The ship, built in 2018 and registered in Panama, was on its way from China to the port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
