Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that US President Joe Biden's invitation to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to participate in the climate summit will be considered "as appropriate."
In response to a question whether Putin would accept the invitation from Biden if it was received, Peskov said, according to RIA Novosti agency, "This issue is of course very important if the invitation has already arrived through official channels, it will be considered appropriately."
Peskov added, "President Putin pays great attention to the climate file, Moscow is a party to the Paris climate treaty, and our country has a very responsible and consistent position. As for this specific summit, a certain time may pass before matters become clear about participation."
Earlier, the White House confirmed that Biden invited Putin among 40 world leaders to attend the Climate Summit, which will be held on April 22-23, in an online meeting.
