The United Kingdom has requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council on Wednesday on Burma after the bloodiest weekend since the February 1 coup, diplomatic sources learned on Monday.

The 15 members of the Security Council will begin their session, which will take place behind closed doors, with a briefing on the situation by the UN envoy, Christine Schraner Burgener, the same sources said.
