Because: The construction of the Auerberg tunnel including the four-lane expansion of federal highway 2 between Eschenlohe and Oberau Nord will start this year.

And this despite the considerable increase in costs for the overall project to currently around 170 million euros, which was raised at the beginning of March.
Additional costs are not an obstacle
Immediately after the new cost estimates for the project became known, Dobrindt contacted the ministries involved from the transport and finance departments.
The goal: The additional costs must not be an obstacle.
The CSU top politician has also achieved this.
Dobrindt even expects a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony for the Auerberg in August.
“This is great news for reducing traffic congestion in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the region,” says the Peißenberger, who was nominated again as a CSU candidate for the federal election in his home town on Saturday - also in September.
Dobrindt doesn't mince his words.
He was also trusted at Autobahn GmbH, which is now building the tunnel and building the Weghaus semi-junction north of Eschenlohe.

Wanktunnel does not get sidelined
Because in the past weeks and months there had been speculation among the population as to whether the tunnel projects would still be seriously pursued due to the high costs of the corona pandemic.
“That is clear to me,” emphasizes Dobrindt.
He is all the more pleased to clarify this matter.
"This is a great Easter present for all of us."
He doesn't lose sight of the rolling tunnel either.
The fact that Autobahn GmbH is now planning the Auerberg project, even though it would actually fall within the scope of responsibility of the State Building Authority in Weilheim, ensures confidence.
"This means that there is significantly more capacity for the Wank in Weilheim." The preparatory work continues.
However, the experts are not yet able to name the dates for this structure.
It is different with the Auerberg.
The Autobahn GmbH has now even arranged further steps, at least in terms of time:

: start of construction pre-cut south in September 2021 (groundbreaking August);
Tunnel shell construction expected from the end of 2023;
Open to traffic at the end of 2027 / beginning of 2028;

: construction by the end of 2021;
Relocation of the state road in Eschenlohe
