The Rennes University Hospital is "

on the verge of saturation

" despite the epidemic situation less degraded in Brittany than in the rest of France, alerted its director on Tuesday, calling on private establishments for solidarity.

"

We are really at the limit of the saturation of our care possibilities, with a level of deprogramming (of surgical operations, editor's note) already high by 25%

", pointed out Véronique Anatole-Touzet, general manager of the CHU at during a press conference.

"

Even if Brittany was (...) relatively spared, this has never been the case in Ille-et-Vilaine

", underlined Véronique Anatole-Touzet, evoking a "

quasi-saturation of our beds

", with a doubling of Covid patients hospitalized between January and March.

"

The very strong mobilization for several months is exhausting the teams, which must hold out over time

», She emphasizes.

The director general called for the solidarity of private establishments, in particular for-profit ones, while the Regional Health Agency (ARS) called on Friday for new deprogramming of operations to increase resuscitation capacities.

The level of deprogramming must affect all establishments proportionately.

This is not the case today (...) The CHU cannot be the establishment which deprograms the most, which has been the case until today,

”insisted Véronique Anatole-Touzet.

Avoid deprogramming

The objective of the CHU is "

to avoid having to deprogram referral patients

", that is to say who fall under specialties that the CHU is the only establishment to be able to take care of (cardiac surgery and neurosurgery in particular. ), she says.

"

And it becomes very, very complicated,

" warned the director.

"

We do not create resuscitation beds with a wave of a magic wand

," added Jean-Yves Gauvrit, president of the establishment medical commission, who explained that this required reducing the activity of operating theaters.

"

We are very worried by what we see happening

" in April, in view of the epidemic indicators, he adds.

The CHU has already had to close 7 operating

theaters

to create resuscitation beds and "

cardiac surgery is maintained at the cost of considerable effort

", explained Eric Wodey, crisis medical director for the resuscitation plan.

We are at 83 intensive care beds.

We can go up to 104 but that means 50% of operating theaters closed.

If we have to do it, we will.

But it doesn't have to last long,

”he adds.
