The head of a unique service section in the Meitav unit, Major Maor Cohen, will lead the IDF beacon on the 73rd Independence Day. 

"The chief of staff called me an hour ago and told me," Major Cohen told Israel Today, "he said they chose me and he is excited.

It's a right to do this activity and it's a right to do it in uniform.

The chairmen of the Ministerial Committee on Symbols and Ceremonies, Minister of Transport Miri Regev and Minister of Culture and Sports Hili Trooper, approved the recommendation of Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and accepted the recommendations of the Public Committee for Selecting Candidates 'L, among them the population of volunteers.

He personally accompanies every volunteer from the IDF. In the last year and a half in which he has served, the recruitment of volunteers to the IDF has increased by about 25 percent. 

Beyond his military service, Major Cohen has devoted the last ten years to working with children with cancer. He is known as the "Lego Man" and is an object of admiration for many children and their families. His volunteering to distribute Lego kits in the evening.

In the past year, in the shadow of the Corona outbreak, Major Cohen has been involved in distributing food and sleeping products to street dwellers and families in need.

The Chief of Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi, spoke with Maor during the day and said: "What you do in your two channels of action is extraordinary, ethical, Zionist and also human.

The increase in the number of volunteers in your role at its best is very impressive, and at the same time the work in the hospitals deserves all appreciation.

"I am very happy that you were chosen to represent the IDF and light a beacon on Independence Day. I have no doubt that it will represent us with dignity. Congratulations and direct strength."
