Geretsried - In the Dutch capital Amsterdam, cyclists are part of the cityscape.

Sometimes they even transport small pieces of furniture on their bikes.

No wonder, because you can make good progress there on two tires, the bike paths are numerous and wide.

In this country there can be no question of it, as the bicycle climate test of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) shows.

The participants in the survey, which is carried out every two years with the support of the Federal Ministry of Transport, gave Bavaria a sufficient school grade.

The largest city in the district is in this grade point average.

For the first time, so many Geretsrieder took part in the bicycle climate test that it was enough for an evaluation.

88 women and men gave testimonies to their hometown.

The result of the overall rating: 3.83.

Geretsried thus ranks 165th out of 415 cities in Germany in the 20,000 to 50,000 population category.

Accessibility of the center is mostly rated positively

The participants in the survey answered the 27 questions very differently.

However, they tend to find that hardly anything has recently been done for cycling.

The majority criticize the fact that nothing is done when cars are parked on bike paths and consider them to be too narrow.

The lack of rental bicycles and the taking of bicycles in local public transport are also warned.

The traffic routing for cyclists through construction sites is, according to the evaluations, expandable.

Overall, many cyclists do not feel so safe as road users in Geretsried.

However, the accessibility of the center was rated largely positively.

And most of them find that you can reach your destination quickly and directly in Geretsried.

In a press release, the board of directors of the ADFC district association thanks all citizens who commented on the bicycle situation between September and November.

For chairwoman Josefine Hopfes, who is responsible for cycling in Geretsried, the self-written texts that the participants were able to add at the end of their questionnaires were particularly informative.

The statements would show "what is burning under the nails of the citizens when it comes to cycling," said Hopfes.

ADFC indicates danger spots

The ADFC itself repeatedly points out three dangerous spots for cyclists: the B11 junctions at Blumenstrasse (Geretsried Nord) and Karl-Lederer-Platz (Geretsried Mitte) as well as crossing Tattenkofener Strasse / Staatsstrasse 2369 at the level of Breslauer Weg.

Many of the participants saw it similarly.

The temporary solution in the city center is often criticized.

There the cycle path is currently being interrupted and diverted around the town hall so that cyclists do not collide with the traffic on the underground car park ramp there.

A Geretsrieder describes this as an "absolute catastrophe".

Another writes about the crossing of the cycle path with Tattenkofener Straße: “That nothing more happens there - a miracle.” Another calls the crossing of Blumenstraße as “life-threatening”.

The desire for a continuous cycle path to Bad Tölz is often expressed.

Some criticize that nothing has happened since the city council decided a year ago to want to become a “bike-friendly municipality”.

Between all the criticism, however, there is also praise: "Overall, the situation - compared to other cities in the area - is quite good."
