Investigators have resumed excavations on the land of Michel Fourniret in the Ardennes. The place had been designated by Monique Olivier, the ex-wife of the serial killer.

New excavations are underway in the Ardennes to try to find the body of Estelle Mouzin, who disappeared in 2003, in the absence of the serial killer Michel Fourniret, two sources close to the file said on Tuesday, confirming information from the

According to the daily, these excavations began on Monday and are currently focused on "

a wetland located in Issancourt, a town bordering Ville-sur-Lumes

", where there is a house that belonged to Michel Fourniret's sister.

The septuagenarian, who suffers from health problems, was not transported to the scene.

His ex-wife, Monique Olivier, on the other hand, should be extracted from his prison on Wednesday to be brought there.

The latter accused Michel Fourniret of having kidnapped, raped and killed the girl in Ville-sur-Lumes, who had disappeared on January 9, 2003 when she was returning from school in Guermantes (Seine-et-Marne).

The serial killer ended up confessing in March 2020 his responsibility in this case.

He was then indicted for "

kidnapping and forcible confinement followed by death

”.

Several excavations have already been undertaken in the region in recent months, without yielding results.

During a previous series of excavations in October where Michel Fourniret was present, Me Corinne Hermann, who defends the family of Estelle Mouzin alongside Me Didier Seban, welcomed "

serious progress

", stressing that the family expected "

to to be able to bury Estelle's body

”.

Michel Fourniret was convicted in 2008 of the murders of seven young women or adolescent girls between 1987 and 2001 and sentenced to irreducible life, then sentenced again in 2018 for a heinous murder.

In February 2018, he confessed to having killed two other young women in Yonne: Marie-Angèle Domece, who disappeared in 1988 at the age of 19 and whose body has never been found, and Joanna Parrish, 20, found dead two years later.
