In other words: Whoever fell trees without permission could pay dearly.

The community is currently examining two cases on Birkensteiner Strasse.

Eichenau - Trees and bushes were removed here in advance of construction work, although this should not have happened due to the tree protection ordinance.

Mayor Peter Münster (FDP) admits to the Tagblatt request: "It's an awkward situation."

It will now be checked what type of violation it is.

The Tree Protection Ordinance, which has been in force since 2015, provides for fines that can amount to up to 50,000 euros.

The amount of the fine depends on how much wood was actually unlawfully removed.

There is already a long history of the properties.

In autumn 2020, the local council was critical of the planned densification, which includes a swimming pool and a large terrace on one of the lots.

The management's compromise proposal at that meeting called for leaving the pool and removing the terrace.

However, the local council refused.

Now the matter lies with the district office.

Simon Bausewein, Department Head Construction, Housing, Environment and District Development in the authority, explains: “The building project mentioned did not require a permit, it did not require a separate building permit.”

The enforcement of the community tree protection ordinance, so Bausewein, falls within the competence of the community.

The clearing of an Eichenauerin, who turned to the daily newspaper, caused some indignation.

She even speaks of radical deforestation.

“It was a piece of land that was like an enchanted garden.

With a huge hedge and many large, ancient trees that gave a home to numerous animals. “Now there is nothing green anymore.

The property is an eyesore, so the Eichenauerin, who does not want to read her name in the newspaper, continues.

However, she has observed that “other people are now also following this example”.

On another property nearby, bushes, hedges and trees were also flattened.
