The STIKO recommends only vaccinating people over the age of 60 with Astrazeneca. What should younger first vaccinated people do now? A doctor mentions three scenarios.

The STIKO recommends only vaccinating people over the age of 60 with Astrazeneca.

What should younger first vaccinated people do now?

A doctor mentions three scenarios.

  • The Standing Vaccination Commission has recommended that Astrazeneca should only be vaccinated in people over the age of 60.

  • However, quite a few people in the district who are younger have been vaccinated with the vaccine.

  • For them, medical spokesman Georg Miedl names three conceivable scenarios.

  • For the time being, the vaccination center is not affected by the new developments at Astrazeneca.

Freising

- The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) issued a recommendation on Tuesday that the corona vaccine Astrazeneca should only be vaccinated in future on people who are over 60 years old.

What does this mean for all those in the Freising district who have already received one of two Astrazeneca vaccinations - and are younger?

Among other things, more than 2000 daycare and elementary school employees from the Freising district are affected.

When asked by FT, medical spokesman Georg Miedl names three scenarios.

Corona vaccination with Astrazeneca: Science is testing a second vaccination with another vaccine

"The first option is to leave it with a one-time protection and later do a booster with a different vaccine," said the general practitioner.

“The second scenario is that the second vaccination takes place with a different vaccine.

Science is currently checking this and is working on appropriate schemes. "

Thirdly, according to Miedl, there is also the possibility that there will be significantly more knowledge about the connection between the sinus vein thrombosis and astrazeneca that have occurred up to now, and thus better instructions for action.

“It is possible that those who tolerated the vaccine the first time could also receive a second vaccination.

I assume so, but so far there is no scientific basis for this. "

U-turn at Astrazeneca: burden for doctors' offices - vaccination center can "work full time"

For the medical practices, the recent U-turn in dealing with Astrazeneca is a "burden", as Miedl put it.

“Because we now have to reschedule again.” He doesn't want this to be understood as a criticism of the STIKO.

"Recommendations are usually made with the utmost care." The risk of dying from Covid 19 is significantly higher than with a vaccination.

"But while an illness is fateful, vaccination is a voluntary act. That is why it makes a big difference for us doctors." That is why he usually adheres to the recommendations of the STIKO.

For the vaccination center, the new developments at Astrazeneca are currently "no problem story", as BRK boss Albert Söhl puts it.

On the one hand, there are currently almost only over-60s vaccinated, on the other hand, only Biontech and Moderna are currently used.

Söhl: "Therefore, with the exception of Good Friday over Easter, we can also work fully through."

The vaccination center in Freising is getting support: Now the practices are also vaccinating against Corona.

The doctor's spokesman has two messages for all those who want to be vaccinated.
