Colombia reaches 2 million vaccinated against covid-19

Colombia officially reached the two million people who have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine on Tuesday, President Iván Duque reported.

Colombia officially reached the two million people who have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine this Tuesday.

President Iván Duque made the announcement from Cartagena and described the event as an "important triumph."

"We have not reached two months after starting the Vaccination Plan and today we are already in two million vaccinated," said Duque from a hospital in the city.

At this rate, according to the president, the goal of three million vaccinated will be reached by April 17.

He did not specify if the figure refers to those who have received at least one dose or both.

The last cut of the Ministry of Health indicates that 1,965,054 first doses and 228,486 of the second have been applied.

This figure does not include those for Tuesday, which will be released on Wednesday.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, to date some 3,360,000 doses have reached the country.

The government announced weeks ago that 61.5 million doses have been purchased for 35.25 billion people.

The vaccines purchased by Colombia are those from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Moderna and Janssen.

The vaccination plan began in Colombia on February 20 and the government's goal is to vaccinate more than 35 million people throughout 2021. According to Duque, this represents 70% of the population and will allow the immunity of flock.

According to the latest census of the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE), the population in Colombia is 48.3 million people.

Until this Tuesday, according to government data, the country registers 63,255 deaths from the coronavirus, 2,397,731 infections and 2,279,840 people recovered.
