Fire on the A95: smoke billows from the bonnet - the driver immediately drives onto the stiffeners
The driver, a 48-year-old from Wolfratshausen, had heard a strange noise while driving south and suspected that it was the turbocharger of his 5-series BMW.
Immediately smoke billowed from the hood.
The man immediately drove onto the hard shoulder and fled the almost four-year-old vehicle with his passenger - it immediately went up in flames.
When the first fire fighting teams from the Starnberg fire brigade arrived a few minutes later, the car burned brightly and burning liquids spilled over the motorway.
“It burned massively,” reports commander Markus Grasl.
The weir used foam to smother the flames.
Car burns down completely on A95 - police express suspicion about the cause of the fire
One lane of the motorway was closed, but traffic could continue to flow.
During the salvage of the wreck, the engine and other parts broke out, which is why leaked liquids had to be bound.
It is investigated whether substances have found their way into the ground next to the A95.
In addition to Starnberg, the weirs from Berg und Wangen were in use.
The car was completely destroyed.
The Weilheim traffic police estimate the property damage at around 30,000 euros.
She suspects the cause of the fire to be damage to the turbocharger.
