In Spain, due to the increasing number of corona infections, the mask requirement has been tightened throughout the country.
This could now also apply to sunbathing.
As of Wednesday (March 31st), people across Spain will be required to wear mouth and nose protection both outdoors and in closed public spaces such as restaurants or shops.
This was announced by the central government in Madrid on Tuesday (March 30th) with a decision in the official journal BOE.
The rule should now also apply if the minimum distance of 1.5 meters to other people outside can be maintained.
Spain tightened the rules: Mask compulsory outdoors - possibly even on the beach
With the new resolution, the central government is standardizing the rules - in many of the 17 regions of Spain there has been a
stricter mask requirement
for some time
.
In Mallorca, too, people have long had to wear the mask outdoors.
However, the face mask was previously allowed to be removed when sunbathing on the beach if the safety distance could be maintained.
However,
if the new rule
is
interpreted strictly
, this is no longer permitted.
Mask would have to be worn even when hiking.

Strict mask requirement planned until the end of the corona pandemic - Balearic government seeks conversation
According to information from the
Mallorca newspaper
, the Balearic Government now wants to negotiate with the other regions in order to have more leeway in interpreting the law.
In this way, the previous regulation is to be retained as far as possible.
On beach promenades in the Balearic Islands, a mask was already mandatory - this should now also apply to strolling on the shore.
However, there are exceptions to the strict mask requirement on the part of the central government in Madrid: for example
for outdoor sports or for people with respiratory diseases who can show a medical certificate
.
The mask can also be removed when eating and drinking in the restaurant.
According to the publication in the Official Journal, the order is to apply “until the end of the health crisis”.
As a result, premature easing is generally not in sight.
