Major, one of U.S. President Joe Biden's dogs, bit a man in the White House days after returning from training following a similar incident earlier this month.

A spokeswoman for First Lady Jill Biden said the man was being examined by White House medical staff "out of caution" before returning to work.

The three-year-old Major is the youngest of the two German shepherds of the Biden family, and the first presidential adopted dog.

"He's still adjusting to his new environment and he bit someone while he was walking," said Michael Le Rosa, the First Lady's spokesman.

CNN reported that the person who was bitten was a National Park Service employee while on the Southern Lawn, and he was forced to stop working to receive treatment.

The parks service did not respond to the network's inquiries.

Major and Champ, Biden's second dog, were taken to the family home in Wilmington, Delaware, after the first incident on March 8.

CNN then reported that Major jumped in, barked and attacked White House staff and security personnel.

Biden then explained that Major was still trying to adapt to the many people around him.

"Every corner has two people you don't know and they go, and he works to protect," the president said.

"85% of people love him. All he does is lick and wag his tail. But I understand that some people, understandably, are afraid of dogs in the first place."

The Biden family adopted Major as a puppy in 2018.

Champ had already spent some time in the White House, when Biden was vice president.

Biden returned the pets to the White House after four years in office of Donald Trump, who mocked the idea.
