People 16 and older can now get vaccinated against COVID-19 in the U.S. Some states have already started, others will start in May.

All 50 states released when they plan to make coronavirus vaccines available to all eligible individuals under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) emergency use authorizations. in English).

Several states have already enabled this permission.

Arkansas is the latest state to announce plans to expand vaccine eligibility to anyone 16 years of age or older, it did so beginning Tuesday, Gov. Asa Hutchinson reported.

A dozen other states have already extended eligibility for the coronavirus vaccine to anyone 16 years of age or older.

And several states that previously announced plans to open vaccine eligibility in early May have changed their schedules to start in late March or early April.

Below is the timeline for when those and other states have said they will open vaccination eligibility to the general public:

- March 9: Alaska

- March 22: West Virginia

- March 24: Utah and certain state sites in Arizona

- March 25: Georgia

- March 29: Oklahoma, Texas, Ohio, North Dakota, Louisiana and Kansas

- March 30: Minnesota, Arkansas

- March 31: Indiana, South Carolina

- April 1: Montana, Connecticut

- April 2: New Hampshire

- April 5: Michigan, Tennessee, Idaho, Iowa, Florida, Nevada, Wisconsin

- April 6: New York, Delaware

- April 7: North Carolina

- April 9: Missouri

- April 12: Illinois, Kentucky

- April 15: California

- April 19: Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania

- April 27: Maryland

- April, no date set: New Mexico, Virginia, Colorado, Wyoming

- May 1: Oregon, South Dakota, Washington, Nebraska, Hawaii, Alabama, New Jersey

For all states that are currently in this vaccination process, 16 or 17 year olds can only receive a Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine as it is the only option licensed for use in this particular population at this time.

The vaccines made by Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are licensed for use in people 18 years of age and older.
