Piesenkam golf course: division instead of tunnel?

The problem is the district road MB 6, which runs right through the Piesenkam golf course.

In order not to have to build an expensive tunnel, the operator has come up with a trick.

Waakirchen -

Despite the pandemic, 2021 could be a good year for the golf course in Piesenkam.

“People are eager to get outside,” says Karl Heinz Krutz.

The project developer with an office in Rottach-Egern opened the golf course near Waakirchen in 2016 after an almost endless planning phase.

The popularity is now high.

Already on the first sunny days in March, the first golfers cavorted on the course.

If the Corona regulations allow it and the weather cooperates, the system will be well booked throughout the season.

The catch: the players still have to cross the district road MB 6 twice on each round.

There should have been a tunnel under the county road when it opened.

But the investor gave himself up to build it, even if the community kept asking.

"We also have no means of simply blocking the square," says Waakirchen's mayor Norbert Kerkel (FWG).

One place should become two systems

At the end of 2020, Krutz surprised the local council with a new idea.

The 18-hole golf course is to become two separate facilities.

A nine-hole course on the side facing the Moar-Alm, an 18-hole course with a driving range and gastronomy on the neighboring side.

"Then the street no longer runs through the square," explains Krutz.

This means that golfers no longer have to cross and there is no need for a tunnel.

With a Power Point presentation in December, Krutz wanted to make the concept attractive to the municipal councils.

The panel reacted cautiously.

First concrete plans would have to be found, then the building authority and the municipal council could deal with them, explained Kerkel.

As a short-term measure, the municipality also called for the relocation of runway 17. It is so close to the road that flying golf balls could pose a danger to traffic.

Plan submitted to the Waakirchen town hall

A wish that Krutz is now fulfilling.

A few days ago he submitted an entire planning package.

Point one: two lanes are laid so that no balls can land on the street.

Kerkel sees it as a sign of goodwill.

The construction committee will discuss the application in its next meeting.

The approval should be certain, after all, the application meets a requirement of the municipality.

The situation is different with part two of the planning package.

It concerns the division of the facility into two separate golf courses.

According to Kerkel, a change in the development plan is necessary for this.

"And we also have to think about whether we want that at all." Much needs to be considered, he also considers an urban development contract to be necessary, says Kerkel.

In any case, the local council will not quickly decide on the desired restructuring: "We will first discuss it internally."

In any case, Krutz is not planning to build a tunnel, which is included in the current development plan.

He hopes that the authorities will follow his new ideas and that he can redesign the course accordingly for the 2022 season.

"We have the necessary space," assures Krutz.

The barn becomes a clubhouse

The barn is to be expanded into a clubhouse with a restaurant as early as April.

In the future, this area will be managed by Dominik Krauss, who, according to Krutz, will also act as the plant's manager.

The commercial management is in the hands of Joachim Felix Krebs from Quickborn near Hamburg.

At the end of January Krutz handed over the management of the newly founded golf course Waakirchen Tegernsee Betriebs gGmbH to him.

The 73-year-old announced at the time that he wanted to withdraw from day-to-day business.

However, cancer is not to be found on site.

From Quickborn he takes care of the administration of the club with 550 members and other commercial matters, explains Krutz, who as the owner continues to be in charge.

The golf course is just one of his projects, says Krutz.

In the municipality of Waakirchen, he is also planning to build a hotel in the Krottenthal industrial park.
