The Minister in charge of Citizenship, Marlène Schiappa, presented Wednesday March 31 to the Senate of the "
avenues of work
" to "
develop the support of secularism
", evoking "
a reinforcement at the level of the administration
" and "
a body of type high advice to secularism
”.
"
These are avenues for work and reflection and the Prime Minister will make his arbitration known in the coming weeks,
" she said after a lively debate on the future of the Observatory of the secularism, within the framework of the bill on “

"
We want to develop the role of secularism within the state apparatus (...) This will not necessarily mean maintaining the Observatory of secularism,
" said Ms. Schiappa.
She recalled that Prime Minister Jean Castex had announced last October that he wanted to "
evolve
" this consultative body chaired by Jean-Louis Bianco.
"
I believe that we can take note of the formal announcement of the disappearance of the Observatory of secularism
", reacted Marie-Pierre de La Gontrie (PS), while Didier Marie (PS) considered "
very astonishing to l 'opportunity for a text on secularism to signify the end of the main tool that allows it to come to life
”.
On the right, Jacqueline Eustache-Brinio (LR) felt that “
we can ask
ourselves
the question of the results
” and of the “
effectiveness
” of this observatory.
“
Secularism has never been so attacked,
” she noted.
Marlène Schiappa developed the “
avenues
” envisaged: “
we are thinking about a coordination structure which would aim to animate the secular referents, to link the administration and the territory
”.
"
We are considering, under the authority of the Prime Minister, the creation of a body of the high council type for secularism, in addition to this reinforcement at the level of the administration (...), which could usefully enlighten the government
», She continued.
