The Pacaya volcano, located about 50 kilometers south of the capital of Guatemala, continues its activity by emitting a column of ash and gases that rise up to 3,000 meters above sea level and lava flow, reported this Wednesday the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh).
"The effusive activity continues to feed the lava flow in the west bank, which reaches a length of 2,900 meters, causing fires in the vegetation in its path, as well as producing the detachment of incandescent blocks on its front and sides," said the Insivumeh in a statement.

For its part, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction of Guatemala (Conred) warned the population not to go to the areas where the lava is because it can cause serious injuries, through a statement on its Twitter account.

Conred added in the message that they are calling on the municipal authorities of San Vicente Pacaya and Villa Canales to "maintain the closure of the access to the fiancos of the volcano and the lava flow due to the high temperature and instability."
