Rubbish and broken glass around the guard hut at Wörther Weiher: The water watch appeals to day trippers to take their rubbish back with them.
Wörth - When the temperatures rise, people are drawn to the outdoors again - even more so in times like these.
The Wörther Weiher is a popular excursion destination.
The veranda around the watchtower's guard hut and the jetty next to it are particularly popular.
The local water rescue service has nothing against this, on the contrary: “The veranda is freely accessible and should remain so,” says Florian Siegl.
But when the day trippers leave their rubbish there, the fun ends for the local group leader.
“For a few weeks now, we have had the problem again at the pond that more and more meetings and parties are being held around the Wasserwacht hut,” explains Siegl.
Regardless of whether this complies with the applicable Corona rules or not - “We have nothing against using the veranda”.
However, there have been increasing problems with vandalism in the recent past.
Broken glass on the hut, on the meadow, in the water
The veranda was damaged - it was carved into the wood with knives or the boards were burned with lighters.
Bottles, cigarette butts, pizza boxes and other rubbish were left everywhere.
“And glass bottles are also thrown, there are broken pieces lying around, on the hut, on the boat slip, on the lawn.
We also found broken bottles in the water ”, reports Siegl,“ and we volunteers have to clean up here afterwards ”.
Basically, the municipality or the building yard takes care of the pond area.
"But when we are over there, we of course also make sure that we clear away the garbage," explains Siegl.
There is currently no guard duty, but the volunteers are still regularly at the hut to check that everything is going well - all year round.
The bathing season officially starts in May.
So in a few weeks, the bathers, including many small children, would be running around in the broken glass in the bank area.
But even now during the Easter holidays, when the weather is sometimes nice already in early summer, numerous cyclists, walkers - and the first swimmers cavort around the pond.
The open veranda is a tradition at Wasserwacht Wörth
Siegl does not want to spoil the fun in the name of his Wasserwacht troop: "Again: We have absolutely nothing against spending a few hours comfortably on the veranda," he emphasizes.
The open veranda is a tradition at the Wörther Wasserwacht.
At the same time, he understands that people want to get out again after winter, and the corona restrictions would also reinforce this desire.
“But it can't go on like this,” clarifies Siegl.
"Broken glass in the water, on the lawn and around the guard hut - that's where the fun just stops." Year after year, especially at the beginning of the wax season, you have to treat numerous cuts, especially on children's feet.
"And that's really not funny."
The local group leader appeals to visitors to the pond to either dispose of their rubbish in the rubbish bins on the site or to take it back home - and above all not to leave any glass bottles lying around.
