Lots of free time, few opportunities to do something: our everyday life has rarely been so lacking in adventure.

But everyone can easily change something about that, emphasizes Tatjana Falk.

She is a wilderness educator and a real expert on how to rediscover the world on your own doorstep.

Starnberg

- "For me, the adventure begins as soon as I leave the front door," says Tatjana Falk.

No wonder.

Because she is a wilderness educator and has been running the nature and wilderness school "Waapiti" in Starnberg with her husband for 13 years.

That makes her a real expert when it comes to adventure.

And they are in great demand in these times of little adventure.

Leisure tips for Easter: New corona trend micro-adventures - "Open your eyes, open your ears, open your nose"

Falk's approach is not higher, faster, further - on the contrary.

“People often say: There is no longer any wilderness here,” says the 51-year-old.

“But that's not true!

The blackbird in the garden is also a wild bird, the stinging nettle is also a wild plant. ”So wilderness is a question of how you look at it, explains Tatjana Falk.

“There is something exciting to discover everywhere.

You just have to take the time to do it. "

So just take a few steps outside the door, into the garden, the park, the next forest, and then: "Open your eyes, open your ears, open your nose," appeals Falk.

“It's a micro-adventure for me.” Micro-adventure - this is a trendy term that has become very fashionable since the beginning of the pandemic.

It was invented in 2012 by the British adventurer and writer Alastair Humphreys for the “local, inexpensive, simple, short adventure”.

Experiences in nature - wilderness pedagogue advises: "The most important thing is: take your time"

But while Humphreys mainly advocates spontaneous overnight accommodation somewhere in the wilderness, Tatjana Falk is not very enthusiastic about this idea.

“Wild camping is forbidden here, I cannot recommend that.” She is of the opinion that such a quick action is not even necessary.

“The most important thing is to take your time.

This is a very big topic in our courses. "

It works something like this: Go for a walk - at a reduced speed.

“Don't storm through the forest, but walk very slowly,” explains Falk.

“That is a challenge for many.” This is how you become calmer and you can perceive a lot more.

Maybe you will discover a few wild herbs.

It is now about wild garlic season.

A little caution is advised because you can mistake it for lilies of the valley, says Falk.

So: Make the differences clear in the identification book and then smell each leaf when the scent of garlic arises, you are correct.

“It is also important to only pick as much as you really need,” emphasizes Falk.

Experiencing adventures in the pandemic: collecting food yourself - that's also fun for children

Collecting their own food is also fun for children.

Falk, who worked in a forest kindergarten for many years, has other tips in store for them.

For example, parents can take a long string with them into the forest.

The children are blindfolded while the string is tied to a tree and then stretched all over the place.

Then the children are supposed to feel their way forward blindly, with the string in their hand - climb over hill and dale, climb over fallen trees, fight their way through dense bushes.

“That's really exciting for her,” says Falk.

If there is a stream nearby, you can build boats out of tree bark and put them in the water.

Or you can build a hut from a few large sticks - or a mini hut for dwarfs from small branches.

“Actually, you just have to go out, sit on a picnic blanket somewhere and let the children do the work.

They can think of something, ”says Falk with a laugh.

Getting teenagers out of the house with micro-adventures

And young people?

Of course, she needs a little more adventure, as Falk knows that as the mother of two adult children.

Maybe you can spend the night outside with them.

But legally, on the balcony or in your own garden, and: "In the open air." Falk recommends on cold nights: put a tarpaulin under it, put a sleeping mat on it, snuggle into the sleeping bag and spread a blanket over it.

Then you won't freeze at night.

And the next day you can experience the sunrise, including a bird concert.

"We humans are very far removed from nature," says Falk.

“But at such moments we notice that we are part of it.

And that changes something in us. "

The number of people infected with corona in the Starnberg district continues to increase every day.

On Tuesday there were 23 new infections, fewer than in the previous weeks.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our new, regular Starnberg newsletter.
