(CNN Spanish) -
The Delaware Federal Prosecutor's Office accused Mexican Luis Raúl Castro Valenzuela, alias "Chacho", of drug trafficking and deprivation of liberty of a US citizen.
Through a statement, Delaware federal prosecutor David C. Weiss announced that the indictment against Castro, an alleged member of the Sinaloa cartel, consists of three counts that include conspiracy to distribute heroin and fentanyl between 2017 and 2020.
The report details that Castro's capture in Culiacán, Mexico, was possible thanks to a joint investigation on the distribution of drugs from Mexican territory to the suburbs of Philadelphia and Delaware.
The statement adds that during the operation deployed in Sinaloa the authorities released a hostage and seized weapons and drugs worth more than US $ 1 million.
In addition, 4 other people were arrested, who according to the US Department of Justice are accused of conspiring to distribute drugs.
The United States seeks the extradition of Castro Valenzuela to Delaware to be tried in federal court.
