Corona in Bavaria: Authority sounds the alarm - Dangerous virus mutant in the Free State already at over 70 percent

Shortly before Easter, the highest corona authority in Bavaria warns again clearly: The reported cases with the corona mutation from Great Britain are skyrocketing. Their share of all cases tested for mutations is already 72 percent.

Shortly before Easter, the highest corona authority in Bavaria warns again clearly: The reported cases with the corona mutation from Great Britain are skyrocketing.

Their share of all cases tested for mutations is already 72 percent.

Erlangen - The numbers speak for themselves.

If it continues like this, the old coronavirus * that has been with us for a year could eventually die out.

According to a weekly data analysis by the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL), the British mutant * is growing rapidly.

4666 cases were examined for mutations in Bavaria in the calendar week from March 22nd to 28th.

The British mutant B.1.1.7.

already 3392, i.e. 72 percent off.

In the previous week it was only 22 percent of the cases examined.

In the weeks before that, the proportion of Great Britain mutants was only around a fifth.

LGL sounds the alarm: the proportion of British mutants increased from 22 to 72 percent

Brief numerical theory: "The basis of the evaluation is the obligation of laboratory operators in Bavaria to report the tests carried out with variant-specific PCR, which was introduced on February 11, 2021," writes the LGL in a press release.

Translated: Anyone who tests for mutations must also report this to the LGL.

So apparently these 4666 examined cases come together.

Incidentally, it cannot be inferred from this how large the total proportion of the British mutant in the reported corona cases in Bavaria is.

For comparison: In the last seven days, over 18,000 cases have been detected in Bavaria.

Far from all of them are precisely tested for mutations.

The 72 percent mentioned indicate a rapid increase, but not an actual proportion of the corona-positive population.

Great Britain variant prevails in Bavaria: Corona share already at 73 percent

All VOC virus variants (VOC = Variants of Concern) make up 73 percent of the cases examined.

The Brazilian virus and the South African mutant are also repeatedly detected.

They are considered particularly dangerous in specialist circles because they also infect people who have already suffered a corona infection, as an LMU expert explains. *

Corona mutations from South Africa and Brazil detected in Bavaria

Even the southern mutants seem to have difficulties against the penetration of the UK variant B.1.1.7 *.

According to the LGL, it is not that easy to tell the two virus mutants from overseas apart.

This requires a so-called genome sequencing.

A complex process.

So this is not done often either.

If so, these results will also be reported.

In Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, 29 cases of the Brazilian mutant were detected.

More than anywhere else in Bavaria.

Landsberg am Lech leads the ranking with 115 cases from South Africa.

But the new mutants from Africa and South America are also appearing in major cities in Bavaria.

Here is a brief overview.

So far there are no documented cases in Regensburg.

The LGL also points out that the Brazil and South Africa variants even declined in the past calendar week.

Their share in the examined mutants is only 0.9 percent.

In the previous week it was 2.6 percent.

However, a trend cannot yet be read from it.

Corona mutant in Bavaria on the board - LGL vice-boss warns clearly

"The figures show that the much more contagious variant from Great Britain has been gaining ground in Bavaria over the past few weeks, so the hygiene and distance rules are still indispensable protective measures despite ongoing vaccinations,"

warns Dr.

Peter Wallner, Vice President of the LGL.
