Iran and the (Four + One) group agreed to hold new talks in Vienna next week to discuss developments related to the nuclear deal and to ensure full implementation of it by all parties.

The participants in a videoconference meeting of the Joint Committee on the Nuclear Agreement, which includes Iran, Russia, China, France, Germany and Britain, announced in a statement today that they will meet in Vienna again next Tuesday, “to clearly define measures for lifting sanctions on Iran and implementing the nuclear agreement, including by holding meetings of relevant expert groups. “.

"The coordinating bodies will intensify separate contacts in Vienna with all those involved in the JCPOA and the United States," the statement added.

The virtual meeting of the Joint Committee on the Nuclear Agreement was held under the chairmanship of the representative of the European Union, Enrique Moura, and at the level of assistants and political directors of the foreign ministries of the five countries.

Mora described the meeting as positive, but much remains to be done to revive the agreement. "We have fundamental work before us in order to reach a key opportunity to revive the JCPOA," he said in a tweet on Twitter.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed that there will be no direct meeting between Iran and the United States in Vienna.

"The aim of the next meeting in Vienna is to finalize the measures related to the immediate and coordinated lifting of all measures of the embargo on Iran, and after that we will reverse the reduction of obligations," Zarif said on his Twitter account.

Zarif denied the American Wall Street Journal's allegations about the US’s participation in next Tuesday’s meeting, saying, “There will be no meeting between Iran and America, and this is not necessary.”

For his part, Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araghchi confirmed that the Iranian delegation will not conduct any negotiations at any level in Vienna with the American delegation.

In a statement to reporters, Araghchi said, "The Vienna meeting, in which the Iranian delegation is participating, is a meeting of the Joint Committee of the Nuclear Agreement, and it is held with the aim of America's possible return to the agreement, and the current members will attend, namely Iran and the countries of the Four Plus One Group only," adding, "America will not attend any meeting attended by Iran, including it." The Vienna meeting, this is crucial.

The Wall Street Journal reported that US officials would participate in the upcoming Vienna meeting, but that no direct consultations would take place between US and Iranian officials.

Araghchi said, "If the rest of the parties to the nuclear agreement wanted to conduct bilateral or multilateral consultations with America about the measures they must take, then it is up to them, and of course such a matter has already happened."

Araghchi reaffirmed that Washington’s return to the nuclear agreement does not need negotiations. As it emerged from it unilaterally, it could return to it in the same way.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that the participants in today's meeting paid special attention to the measures that the United States should take to eliminate its previous violations of the right to the agreement and to lift the sanctions imposed by it on Iran, as well as in return Iran's abandonment of the counter-steps it has taken to restore transparency to The nuclear deal.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed that Moscow "proceeds firmly from the fact that there is no alternative to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, and insistently calls on all concerned parties to make every possible effort to return the nuclear agreement to the originally set framework as soon as possible."

The Foreign Ministry indicated that substantive discussions on all of these issues will continue at the level of the Joint Committee and the expert working mechanisms approved for this purpose in Vienna.

In turn, Russia's permanent representative to international institutions in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, announced that today's consultations were serious and will continue, and he said on his Twitter account, “There is an impression that we are on the right track, but the way forward will not be easy and will require intense efforts and it seems that the parties concerned are ready for that.”

The previous US administration exited the nuclear agreement unilaterally and continued to impose sanctions on Iran in violation of its obligations under the agreement, and despite the current administration headed by Joe Biden announcing its desire to return to the agreement, it has not yet done so and is trying to blackmail Iran in other files.

In turn, Iran insists on the need for the United States to return to the agreement and lift the sanctions before it returns to reducing its obligations under the agreement. It also categorically rejects any new negotiations on this or linking this matter to other files.
