KMB's bid for 9 outing routes only 2 approved news: Liu Shuixiang, Sai Kung Dongba new line is on the brink of reef

KMB said earlier that it plans to open new temporary routes to hotspots for picnics to facilitate the public to enjoy the mountain. It announced yesterday (1st) that two temporary outing routes have been approved by the Transport Department.

Route 289R from Shatin to Wong Shek Pier in Sai Kung and Route 82D from Tai Wai to Ma Liu Shui Pier are already available to serve the public this long Easter holiday.

"Hong Kong 01" received news that KMB had applied to the Transport Department about last month to operate 9 new bus routes and services connecting popular outing locations, but only the above two routes were approved.

It is understood that the Transport Department has directly rejected applications for at least three routes. Although the remaining four routes are pending approval, the news indicates that the situation is not optimistic.

The bus routes on the brink of hitting the rocks include the new route from the east dam of Saigon's Mani Reservoir to downtown Saigon, and the new route from Fanling Liushui, known as the "Hong Kong version of Karuizawa" to Tai Po.

Earlier, some netizens discovered that KMB had arranged for single-deck buses to be tested on Wangi Road in Sai Kung. Many outings expected that franchised bus companies would open new routes to hotspots such as Dongba.

According to sources, KMB had applied to the Transport Department to operate nine outing bus routes around February this year.

However, the Transport Department has so far only approved two routes. It is understood that the Transport Department has rejected applications for three outing routes. Although the remaining four outing routes are still under review, the situation is not optimistic.

He admitted that the applications for two routes have been approved, and hoped that the government can expedite the approval of other routes to facilitate the public to go out for outings.

Leung Lingyan, the head of the KMB's vehicle planning department, added that the routes awaiting approval include popular outing locations such as Sai Kung's High Island Reservoir and Fanling Luk Keng.

Leung pointed out that the Transport Department "has all its own laws" regarding road restrictions and hopes to resolve the restrictions as soon as possible and approve the opening of services.

The Transport Department confirmed that it has approved two temporary outing routes for KMB, including the 82D service from Tai Wai to Pak Shek Kok, which will provide service from mid-March to mid-June; and the period from April 2 to 6 from Shatin to Wong Shek Ferry Pier The 289R.
