With the death of Gérard Filippelli, who lived in Bezons, a page turns for the department, chosen as a landmark by the essential band

There were happy days away from the lights of show business.

Gérard Filippelli, known as Phil, died on Tuesday at Argenteuil hospital (Val-d'Oise).

The former figure of the Charlots gang, aged 78, had lived for many years in Bezons, where his kindness and good humor are remembered.

Invested in his town, the one who lived in the ancient city of Jean-Carasso attended in particular the vernissages of exhibitions and shows in the city.

Many keep in memory the interventions of the guitarist with the students of the professional high school Eugène-Ronceray, with whom he worked in particular on guitar prototypes.

On social networks, we salute “a generous man”.

Those who knew him evoke “his desire to share”.

Some share their memories of a concert, in Argenteuil in 1966, of those still called Problèmes, known in particular for having accompanied the singer Antoine, before they renamed themselves Les Charlots.

Houses in Cergy and Avernes, mill in Théméricourt ...

The death of Gérard Filippelli turns a final page for the Val-d'Oise, a true adopted land of the quartet which marked the cinema of the 1970s and 1980s.

“At one point, they all lived in the department,” explains Patrick Glâtre, image and film project manager at the departmental council, project manager for the Val-d'Oise land of filming website.

They were well established.

"

It was Jean Sarrus, the last Charlot still alive, now living in Auvergne, who paved the way by buying a house in Cergy, in the village, in 1967. He had set up a private screening room.

Some residents may have seen the Charlots one day gathered at the old stadium on the banks of the Oise, in order to fully unwind a reel of film that had become tangled, in order to be able to rewind it.

His family having grown, he moved in 1974 to Théméricourt, in a mill-manor.

The same year, Gérard Rinaldi and Gérard Filippelli settled in Avernes, in the Vexin, discovered thanks to the stuntman Yvan Chiffre, notably the understudy of Alain Delon.

Gérard Rinaldi then bought an old farm in Théméricourt.

The "Return of the crazy bidasses" in Belloy-en-France

Jean-Guy Fechner, for his part, had set his sights on a private mansion in Enghien-les-Bains, by the lake, on the advice of Michel Ardan, producer in particular of “Bidasses en folie”, Claude Zidi's first film, with the Charlots.

He will then move to Méry-sur-Oise.

The Charlots were also found with director Claude Zidi, based in Avernes.

His beautiful home with tennis court and swimming pool had become the meeting place for the little gang.

A region that the Charlots appreciated and where they notably filmed "the Return of the bidasses in madness", in front of the camera of Michel Vocoret, in 1983.

The shooting of the feature film in Belloy-en-France had also experienced some ups and downs.

Veterans, unhappy to see the Nazi flags flying over the town hall used as a backdrop and transformed into a Kommandantur under the Occupation, had indeed organized a parade and blocked operations for several days.
