Washington DC - The US Capitol is cordoned off due to an external security threat, CNN reports.
An announcement over the public address system should have asked all those present to stay inside and to stay away from windows.
A fire department spokesman told the broadcaster that they were responding to a reported shooting at the Capitol's north barricade and that there were indications that they would be transporting patients.
Police have reported that a suspect is already in custody who reportedly hit two Capitol Police officers with a vehicle, CNN said.
