Seine-Saint-Denis: an elected official from Bagnolet accused of having accepted money for social housing

2021-04-02T19:10:33.285Z

Municipal councilor of the majority, Karamoko Sissoko, 39, appeared before the Bobigny criminal court this Friday afternoon

A payment of 2000 euros against social housing.

This is the deal that would have accepted, on two occasions, an elected member of the municipal majority of Bagnolet (Seine-Saint-Denis), Karamoko Sissoko, to help two women who had requested him in this direction in recent months.

The 39-year-old elected official, who was the third deputy (PS) in charge of sports in the Est Ensemble territory until July 2020, was arrested on Thursday while a search was carried out in his office at the town hall.

After 24 hours in police custody, he was presented this Friday afternoon for immediate appearance before the Bobigny Criminal Court for acts of “corruption” and “trading in influence.

He asked for a delay in order to prepare his defense, and therefore the postponement of the hearing.

"I hope to be able to explain myself and provide information on the facts," he soberly indicated to the president of the court.

The city councilor was placed under judicial supervision.

The merits of the case will be examined on May 18.

The two women who had requested him, aged 27 and 32, will also appear before the criminal court for being complicit in this influence peddling.

The sum would have enabled him to settle a debt

The investigation was carried out by the departmental service of the judicial police (SDPJ) of Seine-Saint-Denis.

It began on February 16 with the complaint of one of these two young women, a waitress in Romainville, who felt that she had been cheated by the chosen one because she had not obtained the promised accommodation.

She had also served as an intermediary for one of her acquaintances, a saleswoman by profession, who lives in Blanc-Mesnil.

On that date, the latter had not yet obtained the promised accommodation either.

Investigators from the judicial police have also discovered that the city councilor has already used these 4000 euros to settle one or more debts.

Other testimonies in the file accuse the elected official of having already used his influence to obtain other housing.

The mayor will ask the elected to resign

The mayor (PS) of Bagnolet, Tony di Martino, says he was informed of the search Thursday, in the offices of the municipal councilor.

"I will have the opportunity to speak to him as soon as possible to draw the consequences of this affair and I will ask him to resign," he announces.

The facts for which he is accused, if they are proven, are serious breaches of the function of elected official.

We had a relationship of trust and it is now tainted.

The city councilor recalls having created, for this new mandate, "a working group dedicated to the transparency of local life, which brings together the opposition and the group presidents of the majority".

“It was created to put all the subjects on the table and we will move forward on this, continues Tony di Martino.

It seems essential to me.

"

"We were the ones who demanded the establishment of this working group on questions of ethics and the fight against corruption," said Laurent Jamet, municipal councilor (PCF) of opposition to Bagnolet.

The elected, who does not wish to comment on the merits of the case, however recalls "this need to clean up political life in general, and local in particular".

“Unfortunately, there have been a lot of business in the past at Bagnolet, he continues, and we have already had suspicions about the probity of a certain number of elected officials…”
