Whether to ban the Philippines from coming to Hong Kong Zhang Zhujun: It is up to the senior government to decide

Zhang Zhujun said that there were a total of 158 cases of variant viruses in Hong Kong, 71 of which were British variants, 20 were South African variants, and 5 were Brazilian variants. Another 50 cases were still being analyzed, and 12 cases could not be classified due to the low amount of virus.

Some experts are concerned that many imported cases have come from the Philippines recently, urging the government to examine how many of them have the variant virus, and consider suspending the entry of people from the Philippines.

Zhang Zhujun admitted that most of the variant virus cases are from the Philippines, and more from Pakistan. The rest are from the Middle East and India. Earlier there were cases from the United Kingdom, but there were no cases from the United Kingdom after the ban on British flights to Hong Kong.

Zhang Zhujun also pointed out that although many imported cases have variant viruses, Hong Kong’s entry measures are strict, requiring entrants to be quarantined at designated hotels for 21 days, which is more stringent than other countries. Therefore, no variant viruses have entered the community for the time being.

As for whether people who have been to the Philippines should be banned from entering Hong Kong, she said a number of factors need to be considered and left to the decision of the top government.
