A US Congress official announced the closure of the Capitol building in Washington due to "external security threats" after an unknown person ran over two police officers in front of the building.
"CNN" quoted the official as saying on "Twitter" that the Capitol Police sent a warning message to employees stating that due to external security threats to all buildings of the Capitol complex, the entrance and exit are currently closed ... it is possible to move around the building, noting that "an unknown person was shocked." The network stated that a car attempted to penetrate a security barrier surrounding the Congress building and that a shooting report was responded to at the northern checkpoint of the building, indicating that there were “injuries” and the arrest of a “suspect”.
The police called on American citizens to "stay away from the outside windows and doors" of the building.
Later, media outlets reported the death of the driver of the car that ran over the two officers.
