Diana, Princess of Wales, will be honored with a blue plaque outside the west London apartment where she lived before marrying Prince Charles.

English Heritage, which manages more than 400 houses and historic monuments, said it would install the medallion on what would have been Diana's 60th birthday, after officials from the London local government body nominated her to commemorate her.

It will be located on the outskirts of Coleherne Court, an apartment block in Kensington, where Diana lived with her friends from 1979 to 1981, her brother, Charles Spencer, announced Thursday.

Diana left her department after getting engaged to Prince Charles.

The blue plaques commemorate the places in London where people of historical importance lived or worked.

Over 950 official plaques are on display around the UK capital, but the vast majority are dedicated to men and English Heritage has sought to correct the gender imbalance in recent years.

Spencer thanked the organization for the plaque Thursday, tweeting the design of the monument and an image of its creation.

"He was an inspiration and a cultural icon for many, raising awareness on issues such as landmines and homelessness, and helping destigmatize diseases such as HIV, leprosy and depression," said Eavis.

"It seems appropriate that we should erect a plaque commemorating his work and influence on what would have been his 60th birthday."

Diana was regularly photographed outside Coleherne Court after it emerged that she had been dating Prince Charles.

The building sits on a residential street in South Kensington, an upscale area in South West London.

The others include British fashion designer Jean Muir, Irish crystallographer and anti-war activist Kathleen Lonsdale, and Ellen Craft, who escaped slavery in Georgia before moving to London.

In 2018, only 14% of the blue plaques at English Heritage were dedicated to women.
