US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced today that the United States has lifted sanctions imposed by the administration of former President Donald Trump on officials of the International Criminal Court.
Reuters reported that the decision includes lifting the sanctions imposed on the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Fatou Bensouda, due to her investigation into the commission of war crimes by US forces in Afghanistan. It was also decided to lift the visa restrictions imposed on some of the court's employees.
The American "Foreign Policy" newspaper reported earlier that the administration of US President Joe Biden plans to cancel the sanctions imposed by Trump on the court.
It is noteworthy that Trump authorized last June to impose economic sanctions on any official in the International Criminal Court who investigates or charges US military personnel without the approval of the United States, in a new attack by his administration on international organizations, treaties and agreements that do not comply with the policies of the US administration.
