2021-04-04T16:58:28.784Z

The country is in a real race against the clock on vaccination.

This Friday a new record was registered: more than four million people were vaccinated.

According to the White House, the average inoculation this week was more than

3 million people a day

.

More than 100 million people have received one dose of the vaccine and nearly 60 million two, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

However, this represents

31.4% of the population.

And only 18% are fully vaccinated.

In addition, at least 27 states in the north of the country have registered a rebound in cases and another 11 are about to join the list.

Daily cases grew 8.4% compared to the previous week.

The country exceeds 30.8 million infections and more than 560,000 deaths from COVID-19, according to data from our sister network NBC News.

Therefore, it is not yet time to lower our guard.

"We say it over and over again and we need local people, governors and mayors and others to be able to say,

we haven't gotten out of this yet

," the White House's top infectious disease expert told CNN.

Anthony Fauci.

"What we say is that we must redouble the bet,

hold on a little longer,

" added Fauci.

"The vaccination of people in this country will overcome the wave of the virus. There is no doubt that the vaccine will win," he said.

In recent weeks, more than a dozen states have announced loosening of restrictions, and several have removed mask-wearing mandates.

Alabama will end the mask requirement next week, as Texas and Mississippi previously did.

In Arizona, restrictions on businesses and mass events were lifted this week due to the pandemic.

The beaches of Santa Monica, California, are packed.

He came to this beach from San Francisco, where his children have been studying from home.

The state has registered a decrease in COVID-19 cases in April, as well as hospitalizations, deaths and infections.

People enjoy the sun on the beach in Santa Monica, California, Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

But it is precisely these exits that are worrying.

This Friday alone, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) reported a

record number of travelers at airports: more than 1.5 million people

passed through its checkpoints.

On Saturday it was 1.4 million.

Figures that do not reach those of the year prior to the pandemic but that exceed by more than one million those of 2020.

Others travel by car to various beaches in the country to enjoy the sun.

This is the case of Esperanza Ortíz, who went to Father's Island in Texas.

"I like it because it's quiet, the beach doesn't have many people so the children and I can enjoy it more," this El Paso resident tells Noticias Telemundo.

This when according to a recent study, the state has been underestimating the number of deaths from coronavirus.

Mexico

In Mexico, a new wave of infections is also feared due to the increase in tourism during Holy Week.

Families crowd the beaches despite the government's call to stay home.

Although the country exceeds 200,000 deaths, and is the third country in number of deaths, hotel occupancy in the tourist city of Cancun exceeds 50%.

“I feel that there is going to be a rebound because they let us vacation.

Maybe we don't have a conscience, ”José Magaña, 60, who has not been vaccinated, tells Noticias Telemundo.
