Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry reaffirmed his country's keenness for the success of the Renaissance Dam negotiations and overcoming the controversial points that obstructed the previous rounds, describing the current negotiations as a "last chance."
During the meeting held in the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, "Kinshasa", to discuss the relaunch of the Renaissance Dam negotiations, which have been stalled for several months, Shoukry said, "If the political will and good intentions of all parties are available, then we will be able to reach the desired agreement that will open broad horizons for cooperation and integration among the countries of the region." And its people, ”stressing that his country seeks to reach a fair, balanced and legally binding agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam in a way that achieves the common interests of the three countries participating in the Blue Nile, preserves Egypt's rights and secures them from the dangers and damages of this huge dam.
Shoukry added that Egypt negotiated over ten years with sincere political will in order to reach an agreement that achieves its development goals for Ethiopia and at the same time preserves the rights and interests of the two downstream countries, stressing the need for the Kinshasa meetings to launch a new round of effective and serious negotiations attended by international partners to ensure their success.
