The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, visited Libya on Sunday April 4 where he gave EU support to the new government recently installed to turn the page on a decade of chaos.

This visit comes at a time when this North African country is experiencing a certain political upturn after years of instability since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, a chaos marked by the existence in recent years of rival powers.
Libya has just acquired, at the end of a process led by the UN, a unified executive responsible for leading the transition until national elections at the end of December.

We will work with the new government and support it,
" promised Charles Michel after an interview with Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibah.
“
The European Union actively supports the process of national reconciliation
,” he said.
"
Economic recovery, elections, the fight against illegal immigration (...) are areas in which the EU can help Libya
", he added.
The President of the European Council also announced the return in the coming weeks of the EU Ambassador to the Libyan capital.
The French embassy in Tripoli has just reopened and other European diplomatic representations should follow suit in the coming weeks.
