Thirty-two people were killed due to floods and torrential rains that hit eastern Indonesia this morning.
"Flash floods and torrential torrential torrents on the island of Flroyes have caused 32 deaths, nine injured, and five missing," Reuters quoted Raditya Jati, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency, as saying.
The floods also buried dozens of homes in the mud in the village of Lamanelli, bulldozed houses and a bridge collapsed on the island of Adunara to the east, and the electricity supply was cut off. The Meteorological Agency expected heavy rains, strong winds and high waves within a week.
In neighboring East Timor, eight people were killed by floods that swept the capital, Dili.
The Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency warned yesterday that Hurricanes (S90) in the Indian Ocean southwest of the island of Sumatra and (S99) in the Sapho Sea east of Nusa Tenggara will increase their impact within the next 24 hours on Indonesia.
