A former Mossad official contacted the wife of Jordanian Prince Hamza Ben-Hussein and offered to arrange a plane to evacuate her and her family from the kingdom - this was reported tonight (Sunday) on the Ammon news website by a senior Jordanian source.

This, following the statement by Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safdi that a foreign intelligence agency had contacted Basma Benny Ahmad to assure her that a plane would help her and the prince leave the country.

According to the report, the name of the former Mossad official is Roi Shpushnik.

The Jordanian government has accused close associates of the former regent of having contacts with "foreign elements" in order to carry out a coup attempt against King Abdullah.

The press conference convened by Safdi was intended to respond to the version of Prince Hamza, who claimed in a video broadcast by his lawyer to the BBC yesterday that his arrest was part of an attempt to silence critics of the palace and his criticism of corruption in the Jordanian government.

"Security forces have been following for a long time the actions of Prince Hamza, Bassem Awadallah and Hassan bin Zeid who have set themselves the goal of undermining the security and stability of the kingdom," Safdi said.
