2021-04-04T08:04:39.888Z

Due to the health crisis, the Parisian tournament scheduled from May 23 to June 6 could be moved like last year to another date.

Postponed to September (from October 27 to 11) with a maximum capacity of 1000 spectators last year and with very strict health rules, the Roland-Garros tournament could once again have to find another place in the calendar for its 2021 edition. No decision has yet been taken but Roxana Maracineanu, Minister Delegate in charge of Sports, has not ruled out a new postponement while the health situation is tense in the country.

, the former swimmer said she was discussing with the organizers to consider a change of dates.

The Grand Slam tournament is currently scheduled from May 23 to June 6.

“We are in discussions with them to see if the date should be changed so that it coincides with a possible resumption of all sports and major events.

Today, although top-level sport is preserved, we are trying to limit the chances of clustering and spreading the virus within professional sports, ”said the member of the government.

For its part, the French Tennis Federation and its new president Gilles Moretton are also working on many scenarios.

“We are studying a lot of options for Roland-Garros 2021. There is the total range ... or almost total because I dare not imagine a 100% gauge.

But the gauge can go from behind closed doors to a gauge that will not be 100%.

All options with us are ready.

We meet all the players regularly and we wait to see how things will turn out ", explained the leader this week in an interview with

The vaccine, a solution?

The vaccine could be a solution if it is imposed by the French health authorities, but "I am not sure that we, tournaments, have the possibility of imposing something like that" in case a player demands it, even Rafael Nadal who will be looking for a 14th title at Roland Garros and a 21st Major record, ”noted Moretton.
