The new crown pneumonia epidemic in Hong Kong has not yet resolved. The Centre for Health Protection announced today (5th) that 16 new confirmed cases have been confirmed, of which 15 were imported cases, and the source of infection in one local case is unknown.

The patient was a 32-year-old man who reported to live in Huatang House, Yau Tong Village, and sold electrical appliances in Fengze, Huifeng Center, Mong Kok. He last went to work on March 22.

In the past 14 days, people who stayed at Fortress for more than two hours were required to undergo mandatory testing.

The patient also went to the Lei Yue Mun Market on the ground floor of Lei Yue Mun Square in Yau Tong from March 28 to the morning of April 3.

Two patients had previously visited the market from March 24 to 29.

The Department of Health requires people who have been to Lei Yue Mun Market and stayed for more than two hours after March 24 to be subject to mandatory testing.

In addition, there were 3 preliminary confirmed cases today, all of which were imported cases.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Centre for Health Protection, said that as of midnight today, there have been 16 new confirmed cases in the past 24 hours, ranging from 10 to 42 years old, including 7 men and 9 women.

Fifteen cases were imported cases, and the source of infection in one local case was unknown.

The patient is a 32-year-old man (#11512) living with 5 to 6 family members in Hua Tong Building, Yau Tong Village. He started to experience sore throat and eye swelling on March 30, and on April 1 and April 1, respectively. On the 2nd, he consulted a private doctor and kept a sample.

The patient sold electrical appliances at Fortress, Wai Fung Centre, Nathan Road, Mong Kok, and last went to work on March 22. He mainly sold phones, cameras and beauty equipment on the basement floor. During the period, he wore masks.

Dozens of colleagues of the patient are required to undergo quarantine and testing. In the past 14 days, citizens who have stayed at Fortress for more than two hours are also required to undergo mandatory testing.

Zhang Zhujun believes that the possibility of patients infecting customers is low, but it cannot be ruled out that they are infected by others during work.

The patient's wife gave birth at the United Hospital on March 24. The patient visited the hospital from March 23 to 26, mainly waiting in the corridors, delivering supplies to his wife, and taking her out of the hospital. He did not enter the ward to contact other patients.

The patient also visited the Kwun Tong Maternal and Child Health Centre on March 19 and March 27. The Centre for Health Protection will follow up his exposure history to the health centre.

The patient also went to the Lei Yue Mun Market on the ground floor of Lei Yue Mun Square in Yau Tong to buy vegetables from March 28 to the morning of April 3.

Zhang Zhujun said that a review of the case revealed that two patients (#11492, #11493) had visited the market at around 2 pm on March 24 to 29, but they had also forgotten which shop they had visited.

Due to the occurrence of cases in a short period of time, the Centre for Health Protection feared that there would be invisible transmission there, so the Lei Yue Mun market was included in the scope of forced inspection.

Those who have been there after March 24 and stayed for more than two hours will be subject to mandatory testing.

Four patients came to Hong Kong from Pakistan.

Two of them arrived in Hong Kong on EK384 on April 3; the other two arrived in Hong Kong on flight EK384 on March 23. The samples were positive on the 12th day, and both of them carried the N501Y virus strain.

Six patients arrived in Hong Kong from the Philippines. One person arrived in Hong Kong by flight 5J272 on April 3; the other five persons arrived in Hong Kong by flight 5J272 on March 23. The samples were positive on the 12th day.

Among the 6 people, 4 people carry the N501Y virus strain.

So far, there have been 173 cases of variant virus in Hong Kong, of which 71 cases carry the British variant virus strain; 20 cases carry the South African variant virus strain; 5 cases carry the Brazilian variant virus strain; 65 cases have not yet been classified; 12 cases are known to carry the N501Y virus strain. However, it could not be classified due to sample problems.

Zhang Zhujun, Director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health, said that Hong Kong is expected to have many variant viruses imported from other places. Because there are flights from all over the world to Hong Kong, Hong Kong needs to strictly observe immigration measures, including designated quarantine on the 21st. As for being asked whether to suspend Philippine flights to Hong Kong, it has to be left to the government's consideration.
